OSTEOMYOLOGY

A treatment familiar to clients of Osteopaths and Chiropractors, skeletal manipulation re-aligns the various components of the skeleton.

Many pains, even in apparently disassociated regions of the body, are referred from slight deviations in the spine's functional norm. This is more easily appreciated when you consider that the central nervous column is encapsulated within the structure of the spinal column. Any damage or pressure upon the nerves as they exit the protection of the spine can cause the sensation of pain in the area of the body that they supply, rather than at the point of impingement.

Skeletal ManipulationYour body has to move in order to carry out any activity and this is achieved by muscles acting upon the bones of your skeleton, so moving the joint across which the muscle spans.

Occasionally this goes wrong, either through being overloaded, over repetition or by taking up the wrong posture when carrying out the action. This happens quite frequently, especially in the spine (back bones) when twisting whilst lifting, or sitting for long periods in an incorrect posture.

The normal range of motion of the vertebrae can be exceeded and this causes it to lock up on a neighboring vertebrae, or other body component (dysfunction or facet lock). It can often clear itself, if minor enough, within a day or two but will need attention if it persists. The longer the problem is left, the more sessions are likely to be needed to correct it and the more time needed to return to full activity.

Leaving the "bad back" for more than a couple of days does nothing for it other than to let it settle in to the wrong position which puts strain on other regions of the spine. This causes more pain, which the body tries to relieve by adapting to an incorrect posture, and off we go again on the cycle of ;

BAD POSTURE = UNEVEN PRESSURE = TENSION = MISALIGNMENT = PAIN = BAD POSTURE

Correcting these misalignments is simple & safe (providing you go to someone suitably qualified & with experience) but the longer you leave it before treatment is commenced, the more difficult it becomes. If the condition is left for years it is possible that complications may set in that stops a cure for that injury, but the secondary problems caused by the wrong posture can still be treated so reducing the pain involved.

Typical testimonial

A L, professional musician
My doctor prescribed stronger and stronger medication which was not effective and even made me unwell. The neurologist, who charged me a fortune for a private consultation missed the problem.

Dave rid me of my disabling headaches, which had been going on for many weeks, in just a few sessions - costing me a fraction of the neurologist's fee.
